On this Greek immersion trip we will be exploring not only the beautiful country of Greece and all it has to offer, but we will also be exploring ourselves and what it means to be a strong, capable, confident female traveler in this day and age. This trip has been designed with the everyday woman in mind – the everyday woman that may be juggling a busy life, a stressful job or a changing family. Led by women for women, this trip will be about empowerment via travel, cultural sharing and self-challenge. The itinerary below takes you to the Island of Evia whereas the activities themselves will take you on a journey about what it means to be a capable and confident woman with the ability to travel the world!

Your WanderLearn Leads for this experience will be Simone Kuzma and Alexandra Prinou. These two women, both who own their own businesses, both who travel the world, both who have carved out their own niche in this big world, met through a mutual friend and quickly forged a friendship based on how much they have in common and how much they can share with other women. We hope you’ll join us on this once-in-a-lifetime journey of empowerment and self-discovery!

Option A: October 20 – October 30, 2018
Option B: November 1 – November 11, 2018

Day 1: Flight to Athens, Greece

Flight to Athens, Greece. Most flights depart Saturday morning / afternoon and fly overnight to Europe, arriving Sunday morning. Please see “FLIGHTS” section in the middle of this page for more details.

Day 2: Welcome to Greece!

Upon arrival into Athens you will be met at the airport and accompanied to Rafina, the port of Athens, where we will catch a ferry directly to the beautiful island of Evia. Read more...

Evia Island is the second largest island in Greece (after Crete) and is a simple place with traditional culture, but is also incredibly diverse in geography and nature. Upon our arrival we will get settled into our accommodations, have a relaxing dinner and rest up from jet lag.

Day 3: Milatay ellenica? It’s all Greek to me!

As a traveler, the strongest tool you can have in your ‘traveler tool belt’ are your language skills. Being able to communicate in a foreign country can make or break your experience.  Read more...

The day will start off with a group ‘Pow Wow’ – an opportunity to discuss and share and learn from one another. We’ll then have our first language lesson during which you won’t just learn a few words in Greek, but you will learn how to communicate in a foreign country. After a Greek style lunch, we’ll depart for an afternoon of snorkeling or scuba diving – the choice is yours, but we encourage you to try that which you have not yet tried!

Day 4: Dimosari Gorge

After a good breakfast we’ll meet for our morning ‘Pow Wow’ to get the day started off right! Today’s goal will be about challenging our bodies and proving to ourselves what amazing places they can take us to! Read more...

Remember when Dr. Quinn and her friends made it to the top of Pike’s Peak? Well today we’ll be hiking the strenuous Dimosari Gorge! Greece is well known for its rugged terrain dotted with fjord-like gorges running to the sea. While hiking the Dimosari Gorge, one of the most beautiful gorges in all of Greece, we’ll see what rural traditional Greek life is like, we’ll walk the remnants of the cobblestone road that ran through this area in the Middle Ages, all while taking in the beautiful surrounding flora and fauna.

Day 5: Old + New = Strength!

Women can learn so much from each other, and we can learn the most from our elders. Following our morning Pow Wow, we’ll have another language refresher before separating into smaller groups. We will then head into a local Greek village where we’ll spend the day volunteering with a local elderly woman. Read more...

Things have not been easy economically in Greece and those being hit the hardest by the austerity measures are the elderly, particularly the women. Here is our chance to give back, to lend a hand and make a difference in our own lives. While we may be doing things like helping her weed her garden, clean her house or fix something that’s broken – the true value of our day’s activities will be to give each of you the chance to spend time with an elderly Greek woman, giving us new understanding into ourselves and what it means to be strong and capable in every capacity. Some of life’s best insights come from giving, sharing, taking and receiving.

Day 6: On your own – and that’s a good thing!

Being intentional is the key to living in the moment and to learning about yourself. Today will be about being intentional – today, you will be on your own. You will be on your own to explore, to put into practice the Greek that you have learned, to try your hand at navigating public transportation, to make a friend in a local coffee shop. It’s up to you – it’s YOUR experience, and today you are 100% in charge of it! Read more...

We’ll regroup around 4pm before transferring to our new accommodations in North Evia..

Day 7: Stickshifts and Safetybelts

Being a modern day traveler means having certain skills. One of these is that we need to know how to drive a vehicle of any kind, over any terrain. Following breakfast and our morning Pow Wow, we’ll head off on a Jeep safari – with YOU behind the wheel! Read more...

In the USA, automatic transmission cars are the norm – but in the rest of the world it’s just the opposite – it’s all about the manual stick-shift! Being able to depend on yourself to get from point A to point B is a liberating feeling and today you’ll have the chance to learn to drive a stick (or if you are already a stick shift expert, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and practice driving off road in a Jeep!).

Day 8: We Are The Same

Women often work long hours. We often have trouble balancing family/work. We often get caught up in “keeping up with the Joneses”. And still women know how to “love life” – we laugh joyfully, we smile big, we hug with gusto. Read more...

Women from all over are the same – we share a sisterhood that transcends borders. But while we all have these same seeds in common, it is our culture and our upbringing that shapes the tree that grows from that seedling. Today we will be sharing the afternoon with modern Greek women, learning from them what it means to be a woman in today’s Greek culture. How do they spend their days? How do they balance work/family? How do they view the world? Diversity is strength and today we’ll share and learn with our sisters in Greece.

Day 9: The Universal Language of FOOD!

After breakfast we’ll start the day with our Pow Wow and another language lesson – which is going to be very useful later this evening! Cooking is the sustenance of life – it fuels our bodies but it also fuels our souls, and sharing a meal with others does even more for the spirit than for the stomach. Read more...

Many modern women (and men!) hardly even know how to cook anymore – and what we do know starts with a clean piece of chicken in cellophane from the supermarket. Today we will learn how to cook a traditional Greek dinner while learning about the healthy Mediterranean diet. But the best part isn’t the food that we will be cooking – the best part is we will be serving our food to and sharing it with the local community!

Day 10: Athens, the Acropolis and More

On our last full day in Greece we will return early to Athens. A city steeped in unimaginable history, this dynamic cosmopolitan city is built on the ruins of thousands of years of civilizations. Read more...

Upon arrival in Athens we’ll drop our off luggage at our hotel before heading out to explore the city and sites. We’ll visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Temple of Haphaestus, the Odeum, the Agora, and more. Today we will explore Athens not just as tourists, but as travelers – as confident, true travelers!

Day 11: Depart Athens

Even great things must come to an end, and our trip will come to a close in Athens on Day 11. You may choose to depart Athens anytime you wish.
