“Wanderlust” is excited to have teamed up with explorer, change maker & traveler, Jamey Ponte (of Child Wellness Fund) to bring you our most epic trip – a safari to Kenya!

This tour will be about you being immersed in the local culture. The trip will be led by Jamey Ponte. On this trip, you will experience wildlife, landscapes and of course the people of Kenya. You will fly into Nairobi the capitol of Kenya, visit the Kibera Slum settlement, the central business district, small villages, rural towns and centers, tour the Maasai Mara and more. This truly can be a life changing experience and a trip of a lifetime.

This trip is going to be a small group limited to 6 spots only. This will help make the travel experience even more special and customized to your interests.

All Wanderlust:Wanderlearn trips are small groups only. For this Kenya expereince, your group will have no more than 6 guests. We do this so that you can have an up-close-and-personal, hands-on travel experience. The small group size also allows for truer cultural immersion and one-on-one learning opportunities with your WanderLearn Lead.  This all makes a better experience for YOU and for the group as a whole.

Day 1: Flight to Nairobi Saturday July 14, 2018

Flight to Nairobi. Arrive between 9pm (July 14) and 3am (July 15).

Day 2: Relaxing in Nairobi Sunday July 15, 2018

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be picked up from the Nairobi Airport and you will settle into your accommodations. You’ll then spend the day in a relaxing manner exploring the local area with your guide.

Day 3: Central District Nairobi Monday July 16, 2018

With your guide Jamey Ponte, you will explore other areas of Nairobi – an amazing city with a powerful past. Interact with the locals and become fully immersed in the “city” side of Kenyan culture. Visit local street markets and explore the non-touristy side of Nairobi!

Day 4: Rift Valley to Naroktown Tuesday July 17, 2018

After a typical Kenyan breakfast, we’ll pack up and head out by car to Narok. You’ll cross the Rift Valley and explore the cultural differences between the big city of Nairobi and the smaller towns dotted across Kenya.

Day 5: The Maasai Mara – the Serengeti of Kenya! Wednesday July 18, 2018

The Serengeti eco-system of Tanzania encompasses the Southwest corner of Kenya, where it’s called the Maasai Mara. Upon arrival, you’ll settle in to the very comfortable camp in the Mara, one of the most extraordinary places in the world!

Day 6: Trans Mara – near Tanzanian border Thursday July 19, 2018

The best animal viewing in all of Africa can be found in the Maasai Mara. Lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, giraffes…. you name it, you’ll see more African wildlife than you imagined possible! Today we will drive to the Trans Mara, which includes crossing the Mara River (the river famous for the Great Migration crossings)!

Day 7: Aitong – Maasai culture and peoples Friday July 20, 2018

In addition to plentiful wildlife viewing, you’ll have the opportunity to spend time and interact with the local tribes, in particular, the Maasai peoples. A beautiful and fascinating people, you’ll get up close to the culture in a way that a regular tourist never could!

Day 8: Lemek – Maasai Mara Saturday July 21, 2018

Explore the beautiful Lemek Conservancy and learn how the Conservancy works to benefit the local peoples and local wildlife.

Day 9: Mara / Bomet / Naroktown Sunday July 22, 2018

The biggest thing that sets this trip apart from other tours is that your guide, Jamey Ponte, lives and works directly with the Maasai people and local tribes in Kenya. Because of his ties to the area you may get invited to a Maasai wedding or invited into a village for dinner. We leave time and space on days like this for these opportunities to present themselves. Trust us, you’ll have a unique, unrepeatable experience!

Day 10: Return to Nairobi Monday July 23, 2018

Today we will complete the return drive to Nairobi. Once back in Kenya’s capital city, you have the opportunity to explore the Kibera Slums – one of the world’s largest slum settlements. With your guide, you’ll spend time in the area and immerse yourself in the local life, all in a safe manner!

Day 11: Kibera Slum Settlement Tuesday July 24, 2018

On your last day in Kenya, the group will have the freedom to visit areas that you may personally be interested in, or that you didn’t have the chance to fully explore during your first days in Nairobi.

Day 12: Depart Kenya – Return home Wednesday July 25, 2018

Return flight, departing Nairobi.






Please note that a general level of fitness is required for this trip. We will be doing long walks / short hikes and traveling over rough and difficult terrain. If you have physical limitations, please contact us to discuss the trip further.


Meals and filtered drinking water are provided. You may purchase alcohol or additional items like candy/snacks on your own.


Accommodations will be basic. Safety and cleanliness are ensured. All accommodations will be shared.


Please do not book your flights until you have submitted your application and received written notification of your confirmed reservation onto this Wanderlust:Wanderlearn trip.

Flights are not included in the price of this trip, but Wanderlust does everything possible to assist you in getting discounts. Before you book your flight, we strongly recommend that you please check with W:W for flight savings.

Included in this trip package are the “Wander:Preps” – a series of customized classes to prepare you for your upcoming trip. In these prep sessions, you’ll get to know your fellow travelers and enjoy the cohesive benefits of a group of independent travelers traveling together.

For this Kenya trip, we’ll cover topics such as money-tips, packing-tips, language lessons, immunizations, how to be a safe traveler, and more. Wander:Preps are for everyone – newbies and experienced travelers alike will walk away with plenty of new tools.

* Wander:Preps are an integral part of this travel experience. Please understand how important they are for yourself and the other trip members. If you miss more than two hours of Wander:Preps, you may be removed from the trip.
